Rothkomatic. An iPad app created in collaboration with a developer friend who had previously taught computer graphics and had a love for Rothko.
The developer I worked with wanted to create an iPad app where users could paint like Rothko or where the app itself would generate Rothko-like paintings. (The app has unfortunately not been updated for recent releases of iOS and is no longer available.) People typically think of a canvas and physical paints when it comes to Rothko. They don't immediately think that they themselves can create artwork which celebrates the artist… especially on an iPad.
The user for Rothkomatic is anyone who enjoys using an iPad. We've had a wide variety of people using the app who range in age from young children up to and including seniors.
We bounced ideas off of one another and my friend conducted a number of code experiments. I worked to define the structure of the app and then provided the app name along with graphical assets.
Rothkomatic for iPad was created turning everyday people into Rothkoesque artists. The app also generate paintings automatically for those who simply want to sit back and watch art pieces be created.
